saltfree groupNOT a serious scary comp....

Saltfree have got a little bored of taking everything too seriously. Whilst competitions are great, they do bring out the worst in people, make you just a little-bit self-centred, can be quite scary and quite frankly, if you are taking it seriously, have far too much impact on your life in the run up. So, this year we thought we'd have a break from silly depths at Double Dip and do something different.

The Saltfree Splash will take place at the NDAC in Chepstow, UK on 25th and 26th September 2010. We really hope all our regulars, and a lot more of you besides will be there.

What is it? It's NOT an AIDA-ranked comp. It's NOT an excuse to give up caffeine and go mental in the gym. It IS a chance to have a really good laugh, push yourself in some ways you might not have done before and most importantly, compete as a team.

You need to find yourself a team of 3. This can be all male, all female or mixed. The only rule is that at least ONE member of the team must be a newbie - someone who has only started freediving since January 2009. Your team will compete in a number of events across the weekend and there will be a prize for everyone in the winning team.

The events are still up for discussion but will probably include:

10m-20m-30m Relay Speed Trial - One team member does each depth, you choose the discipline. Each diver cannot set off until the diver before them is up and has handed over the lanyard. The fastest team wins.

Treasure Hunt - underwater, throughout the whole of the lake. Once your team is in the water, you have to stay in the water and stay together - so you might want some fast surface swimmers for this! Collect as many pieces of treasure as you can in the time allotted. Points for each piece.

Lucky Dip/Guess the Depth - pick a depth out of the hat (all depths 20m or less) and then dive as close as you can to that depth, with the watch on your back and no marks on the rope. More points for being closest to the depth you picked. You choose the discipline.

Photo competition - in your team of 3, take a load of photos, underwater or topside but with a freediving theme and enter your top 5. Everyone at the comp votes for the funniest.

Duck Dive competition - beauty, grace and as little splash as possible. Judge's decision is final. Points out of ten, a la Strictly Come Dancing.

Party - on Saturday night, probably at The Boat, non-competitive.

We really hope you'll come along - the more the merrier! Use our Facebook group to get your team together, discuss your game plans and suggest any other events (or ways to improve these ones). Full details on entry are on the right. If you'd like to come and help as a judge, safety diver, sponsor us or get involved in some other way or have any questions please email us.

We hope to see you there!
