AIDA 3 Star Freediver Course

You've completed your basic training and you've been diving a while. Maybe you've hit a bit of a plateau and would like some new ideas to get past it, maybe you're diving a bit deeper than you thought you could and would like to understand the physiology better and adapt your techniques - the AIDA 3 Star Freediver course can make all the difference.

Conducted over two weekends at Chepstow, the AIDA 3* Freediver course includes time in the classroom, pool and four sessions in the lake. The next dates for this course are 17/18 September and 29/30 October 2011- you need to attend both weekends.

In the classroom, you'll learn a lot more about how our physiology helps us freedive and how to use that, the best kinds of fitness training for freediving, how to train to improve your freedive performance and some of the history of the sport.

In the pool, we'll look at developing effective training routines for Static and Dynamic Apnea to increase your performance in each. You'll also learn and practice rescue techniques for the pool disciplines.

In the lake, it's time to work on equalisation and teach you some more advanced techniques to allow for deeper, more comfortable dives. You will learn how to use your buoyancy to save energy on your dives, freefalling gently to your target depth and floating back up where you can. Of course, once again we will look at safety and rescue techniques. You'll develop the skills you need to safety dive effectively and to rescue both yourself and your buddy from a selection of possible difficulties.

AIDA 3* is a challenging, fun course that will put you through your paces in a relaxed, encouraging environment. You will leave feeling much happier pushing your performances further and more confident in your ability to deal with a variety of freedive situations.

The course costs £500 which includes all your entry fees, certification fees, copies of the course notes and rental of any kit you need other than a wetsuit, which we don't provide. We can help organise a rental wetsuit (at additional cost) if you need one. You'll need to be at least 16 years old, fit to freedive, and you must have completed the AIDA 2* or an equivalent qualification. If you've done a freedive course outside of AIDA, email us and we'll find out where you fit in.

Certification as an AIDA 3* Freediver is dependent on reaching the target performances required by AIDA. If you complete this course, you can also receive certification through PADI as a Distinctive Specialty "Advanced Freediver".

If you're not able to commit to the time (or money!) to complete an AIDA 3* course but would still like help with a particular part of your freediving, take a look at our Workshops and if there isn't one for what you want, ask us!
