Freediving with Saltfree
SaltFree are a group of freedivers who train, teach and compete at The National Diving and Activity Centre, a deep, green and unashamedly beautiful flooded quarry in Chepstow, near Bristol, in the UK. We meet to freedive at least once a month and more often from Easter to October. New freedivers are always welcome. If you're completely new to breath hold diving, we'll ask you to take a freediving course with us.
Our purpose-built freediving platform is the deepest of its kind in the UK, fully equipped for safety and comfort. We have relatively clear water, about 10m of vis, four training lines that can all be set at your target depth and 77m of water beneath us. All in all a perfect location for Constant Weight and Free Immersion dive training.
Meet dates for 2012 are: 3 March, 14/15 April, 12/13 May, 26/27 May, 9/10 June, 23/24 June, 7/8 July, 4/5 Aug, 1/2 Sept, 15/16 Sept and 13/14 Oct. Please sign up on our Facebook page or email us to book your place.
For those new to the sport, or interested in learning more we offer a full range of freediving courses through AIDA and PADI, from beginner up to instructor. If you're accomplished in apnea, we have a great track record for getting people deeper - and you'll have fun while you're at it. A beginner course takes just one weekend (and a little bit of home study) and once you've done that, you can come and train at any of our meets.
In between the deep stuff, we run a weekly winter pool training session in Helston, Cornwall and have freedivers training regularly in pools around the UK. At our pool sessions we train for Static Apnea and Dynamic Apnea. For more info on our pool activities, drop Sam an email.
If the sea is more your thing than the deep quarry, and you want to get closer to the fish, stay down longer for spearfishing or photography or just need some hints on freediving safely around the coast, our sister company, Freedive Cornwall can help.
Saltfree was founded and is run by Sam Kirby. Sam is an AIDA International Instructor Trainer and Judge, a former UK Team Captain and a PADI Course Director.
