AIDA 4 Star Freediver takes you even further than the AIDA 3 Star course. By now, you are probably interested in cometing at freediving, training regularly and might well be thinking about becoming an AIDA Freedive Instructor

Conducted over two weekends at Chepstow, the AIDA 4* Freediver course includes time in the classroom, pool and four sessions in the lake.

Theory covered at this stage includes physiology of the lungs as they reach residual volume (somewhere between 30 and 40m for most of us), how to deal with these changes as you dive, techniques for deeper freediving including mouthfill equalisation and packing, safety considerations including the prevention of decompression sickness, equipment for deeper freediving, considerations for higher level fitness training, nutrition for freediving and the fundamentals for setting up and running freedive sessions.

In the pool, advanced training techniques for Static Apnea and Dynamic Apnea will help you build up your personal best times and distances. Rescue and safety procedures will be reviewed and ramped up a bit to really check your reactions and skills.

In the lake, you'll be surprised at how much more there is to learn, even at this level. We will help you try out a number of new techniques including mouthfill and packing to aid equalisation as you go deeper. We'll also take some time to work on your Free Immersion technique, show you how exhale diving could contribute to your training and check once more that your rescue and safety diving skills are up to scratch.

By the end of this course, you'll have reached the performance levels to become an AIDA Instructor, all you need to do now is learn how to teach! As an AIDA 4 Star Freediver, you're qualified to assist AIDA Instructors as they run courses, so you can gain some teaching experience yourself.

The course costs £350 which includes all your entry fees, certification fees, copies of the course notes and rental of any kit you need other than a wetsuit, which we don't provide. We can help organise a rental wetsuit (at additional cost) if you need one. You'll need to be at least 16 years old, fit to freedive, and you must have completed the AIDA 3* or an equivalent qualification. If you've done a freedive course outside of AIDA, email us and we'll find out where you fit in. Certification as an AIDA 4* Freediver is dependent on reaching the target performances required by AIDA. If you complete the course, you can also receive certification through PADI as a Distinctive Specialty "Master Freediver."

If you're not able to commit to the time (or money!) to complete an AIDA 4* course but would still like help with a particular part of your freediving, take a look at our Workshops and if there isn't one for what you want, ask us!
